Patricia Tait Nicholson

December 22, 1938 — January 31, 2021

Patricia Tait Nicholson passed away peacefully at her home in Overland Park, KS on January 31, surrounded by her family.

Pat was born in Minneapolis, MN on December 22, 1938, the first of six children to Mary and Robert Tait. She was a parishioner at Ascension Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS.

On August 8, 1954, Pat officially started "going" with her high school sweetheart, Roger (Nick) Nicholson.  After five years of dating, they were married on September 5, 1959. To see them together was to witness two people brought together by God. Whether it be their many travels and adventures or their quiet mornings drinking coffee and reading the newspaper, every moment of their 60 plus years together was spent as in love as the day they met.

Pat will live on with us in the place she loved the most, an 89-year-old log cabin on Big Sandy Lake, MN. When Pat was 12 years old her father bought the cabin as a surprise for his family. When reminiscing on this, Pat joked about how upset she was that there wasn't a bathroom. Over the next 70 years, this cabin added two bathrooms, doubled in size and added several new family members. Some of Pat's favorite memories were watching her cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews run across the yard to come say hi, and to get fruit snacks she always kept on hand. Pat never missed a single summer at the cabin.

For all 82 years of her life, Pat found joy in the simple things, teaching her grandkids how to play cards, telling childhood stories which filled the room with laughter, making the best spaghetti sauce, or enjoying a 5 p.m. cocktail hour with her husband while watching the sunset over Big Sandy Lake.

She was a woman who never failed to show up, whether it be her yearly trips to Las Vegas with her bridge club or at every single one of her grandchildren's sporting events. She will be remembered by her enjoyment in a good prank or joke, her signature phrases of "oh ish" and "call the doctor", and her unwavering compassion for others.

She is survived by the love her life, Roger (Nick) Nicholson, her five siblings, Peg Tait Aguirre (Bill Morgan), Kathy Tait Martin (Mike), Bob Tait (Joan), Mike Tait, Tim Tait (Tami), and her four children, Kathy Nicholson Reid (Joe), Molly Nicholson McGowan (Mike), John Nicholson (Pam), Chris Nicholson (Jill), and 12 grandchildren, Trish Reid, Claire Reid, Kelly Nicholson, April Nicholson, Tait McGowan, Emily Reid, Nathan Nicholson, Meghan McGowan, Eric Nicholson, Nicholas McGowan, Sean Nicholson, and Brian Nicholson.

Services will be held this Friday, February 19th, 2021 at Church of the Ascension, 9510 W 127th St, Overland Park, KS 66213. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am. The service will be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend, and can be found be clicking HERE. Masks and social-distancing protocol will be observed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Youth Camp (CYC).  A camp for children near Pat and Roger's cabin on Big Sandy Lake.  Catholic Youth Camp,  2233 Hamline Ave, Suite B1, Roseville, MN 55113 or cycamp.org.
