Paul Frederick Mages

December 7, 1944 — October 11, 2022

Tecumseh, Kansas

Paul Frederick Mages, Tecumseh, KS passed away on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022 at Brookdale Memory Care, Shawnee, KS. Paul is survived by his wife Ann Albers, three daughters Angie (Brent) Boles, Paula Mages all of Topeka and Theresa Lemus (Rory Hickock) of Reno Nevada. Paul has six grandchildren Cassidy Roberson, Madeline Key, Alex Mages, Nicole Sprague, Mateo Lemus, and Jarah Lemus, and one great grandson, Elliot Sprague.  Paul is also survived by two sisters, Patty Hoover, Overbrook and Vicki Isaacs, Lawrence as well as a brother, Larry Mages of Ottawa.

Paul was born on December 7, 1944, in Ottawa, KS, to Lawrence Mages & Marjorie McKoon Mages the first of four children. The family lived on a farm and Paul walked a mile to attend a one room schoolhouse, Greendale, later he attended Sacred Heart Middle School, Ottawa High School, and graduated from Lawrence High School. After HS graduation, Paul attended Pittsburg State University, the University of Kansas, and Washburn University, receiving a BA in Business. In 1964 Paul married LaVeta Stowell; they had 3 daughters. After their divorce, Paul was married to and divorced from Rhonda Mercer.  In 2002 Paul married Ann Albers.

Paul had a long, successful career in the pest control business. He began working for Schendel Pest Control during high school, and eventually purchased the company in the late 70’s.  Under his leadership, the company grew from a single state operation to a multi-state business. Paul’s entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond the pest control industry; he also owned and operated Nature’s Corners in Wichita during the mid-70’s.

Unfortunately, in the later years of his life, Paul was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease. Despite his diagnosis, Paul retained his kind, caring demeanor and still found great joy fishing, watching wildlife, and tending to his exceptional house plants and beautiful yard. After his symptoms worsened, Paul moved into Brookdale Topeka in 2020. The family is very grateful for the kind, attentive care Paul received from Brookdale during the last years of his life.
