Paul Frans Vanlerberghe, 87, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away December 9th, 2021.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 18th, 2021 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Paul will be laid to rest at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas
Paul was born August 23rd, 1934 in Meulebeke, Belgium to Philemon and Marie (Vroman) Vanlerberghe.
He was born and raised on a farm in Meulebeke, Belgium as one of ten children. In his early 20’s he came to Kansas to work with his uncles and cousins who immigrated here in the early 1900’s, looking for better opportunities.
Paul returned to Belgium to marry his bride in 1959. Together they lived in Shawnee, Kansas and had two children. In 1962 they returned to Belgium where their third child was born.
Having learned the grocery business in the United States, Paul entered at ground level in the newly up and coming grocery store industry.
Paul worked himself up from produce manager to branch manager to regional manager until he finally became the director of marketing for a 150 store grocery store chain.
In 1981 Paul and Jenny moved the family back to the United States where he turned his passion for wine into a career as a Wine Consultant until his retirement.
Paul loved to travel and was passionate about gardening. He had the honor of showcasing his yard in the Water Garden Tour for many years.
Paul loved his family and spending time with his beloved wife of 62 years, Jenny.
He will be greatly missed.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
He is survived by his wife Adriana (Van Puymbroeck) Vanlerberghe; son Edward (Chris) Vanlerberghe; daughters Liesbeth (Dolf) Pittoors and Isabel (Frank) Van Lerberg; eleven grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and three sisters Annie, Jet and Lena.
