After a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, Peter Porsavage, 69, of Overland Park, Kansas, went to be with the Lord September 30, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.
Pete was born on May 17, 1941, in New York City to Peter and Eleanor (Mitchus) Porsavage. He grew up in New Jersey, attended Seton Hall and in his late teens & early 20’s was a member of the Nightlites band as an accomplished saxophone player. During his employment with Swift Meat Co. Pete was transferred to Kansas City, where a position was created for him as a cost accountant. He retired early in his 50’s and went on to serve those who battled substance abuse. As a recovered alcoholic himself, Pete was able to provide wonderful help and support to those in need. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee and very active in Awanas.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, John Palmer, Sr. He is survived by his brother Robert Porsavage (Judy) of Connecticut; sister, Carol Palmer of New Jersey; and nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loving family of many years, Diane Griggs, Michelle Bessey (Brent), Tami Vanlerberg (Bryon), Michael Griggs II, and eight grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Kansas City Hospice House for their loving care and wonderful support during this difficult time. We love you all!
