Phyllis O’Connor was called by the Lord early Christmas morning. Born in 1928, she lived with her parents and brother in Nebraska.
Phyllis lived through World War II and The Great Depression. Life lessons learned before age 40 gave Phyllis the characteristics associated with the silent generation: courteous, determined, and resilient.
In the late 1960’s she married WR O’Connor. They lived in Shawnee KS and blended her son with his sons and daughters and created a daughter together. Phyllis proudly earned a Master’s degree before retiring from her position as an elementary school librarian. For 4 decades the couple shared a love for seeing the United States in a pickup/camper and square dancing when the truck was parked at the home. In 2011 her husband of 45 years was called by the Lord. Phyllis continued to live in their home for eleven more years. Five months ago, Phyllis moved to a facility to be closer to the home of her youngest daughter. It was there that Phyllis took her last breath on earth and her first in heaven.
The family has planned a memorial honoring the life of Phyllis O’Connor scheduled for Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 10:30 to 11:30 (speaker at 11 o’clock) at Amos Family Funeral Home located at 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the NEA foundation. The NEA Foundation “is a national nonprofit and philanthropic organization based in Washington, DC. Founded by educators, our mission is to work in partnership with others to promote the absolute best in public education.”
