Phyllis E. Ruiz

Phyllis Elaine (Nuesse) Ruiz, 64, passed away on July 22, 2018 at her home in Kansas City, Kansas. Phyllis was born on June 14, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas to Philip and Lois (Healy) Nuesse and was the eldest of their three children. As a young girl she was involved with 4-H, played soft ball, enjoyed vacations to her paternal grandparent's home in Minnesota as well as her maternal grandparents. She loved to collect rocks and minerals and had a varied collection of albums. She was also an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

She was married for 39 years to Joseph D. Ruiz and they were parents to Austin P. Ruiz, Katie Everson, Norma Jean Shurtz and Monica Nolan. During their marriage she and Joe enjoyed many trips to Branson Missouri, often with son Austin. Taking in many of the musical shows, going out to eat, attending and doing many church activities which included visiting shut-ins and helping at vacation bible school. She was also a bargain shopper and very generously shared those purchases with others.

Phyllis was a passionate follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was not afraid to share her faith with others. She was fortunate a number of years ago to travel to Israel and visit many of the same places that her Lord had been. It was a trip that touched her deeply.

Phyllis was predeceased by both her parents and both sets of grandparents. She is survived by her husband Joe of the home, son Austin, daughters Katie (Eric), Norma Jean, Monica (Chris) Nolan, several grandchildren, one great grandchild, her sister Lynn Hayes (Jim) of Shawnee, brother Bruce (Melissa) Nuesse of Shawnee, and many nieces and nephews. She was a beloved wife, mother, big sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 and Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018 both will be at The Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee Kansas, followed by burial at Maple Hill Cemetery in Kansas City Kansas.
