Phyllis Nelle Welander

June 4, 1917 — July 18, 2013

Phyllis Nelle (Stolpe) Welander, 96, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Sun City, Arizona passed away July 18, 2013, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

Phyllis was born June 4, 1917, in LeMars, Iowa, to Edward and Carrie Nelle. Phyllis was a home economics teacher for many years in three Iowa school districts: Marathon, Paton-Churdan and Davenport. She enjoyed retirement in Sun City, Arizona, where she loved her years of golfing, ballroom dancing and her home located on the fifth green.

She is survived by her daughters, Christine Anderson, and Jacqueline Smith; son, James Stolpe (Trudy); nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; brother in law, Edward Kiolbasa; step children, Wally Welander, Pat Svacina, and Barbara Corriveau; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd; sisters, Lois Duffy, and Maxine Kiolbasa; brothers, Myron Nelle, Vernon Nelle, and Kenneth Nelle; and son in law, Richard Smith.

A Memorial Mass has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 3, 2013, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas, with inurnment in LeMars, Iowa, at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Phyllis's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.
