Nick began his 38 year career of banking working for his father Ron Pflumm, Uncle Bud Pflumm and Grandfather Clarence Pflumm, at their family owned bank "The Shawnee State Bank" in the Bookkeeping/Customer Service Department. He went on to work at the "Lenexa State Bank" as a Branch Manager. Returning to "The Shawnee State Bank" he followed in the footsteps of his Grandfather Clarence - 5th President, Uncle Bud - 6th Presidents, Father Ron - 7th Presidents and Nick as the 8th and final President of âThe Shawnee State Bank." Commerce Bank, NA bought the SSB and Nick was Regional Bank President until Ray Glassnapp hired Nick to work at First National Bank of Olathe where he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Enterprise Bank acquired FNBO and Nick worked there briefly. Jim Lewis hired Nick to work Security Bank of Kansas City where Nick enjoyed working as Senior Vice President and Senior Commercial Loan Officer. Nick loved banking and helping people.
Nick enjoyed spending time with his wife, relaxing at home or at the lake; fishing, boating, swimming, wave running or just sitting on his deck reading, watching the boats, people and ducks go by. Nick also loved hunting, reading about history, spending time with family, coaching his children and grandchildren in sports: basketball, volleyball, baseball and soft ball. He also loved working in his yard, watering, seeding and killing moles.
Customers and co-workers alike have many stories over the years about Nick working to help start a business, keep businesses going, making loans, working with builders, and his new employee hiring technique, he asked questions that made him see what was in a person's heart, he didn't put much interest in resumes or the way a person looked. He even hired a man in Spain to come to FNBO just by interviewing him on the phone. Nick never referred to staff as employees or you work for me, he always referred to them as co-workers. If you made a mistake Nick said to learn from it and don't do it again. If there was something that you really believed in as a solution to a problem he would spend one of his "silver bullets" to back you up. He would "never hang out one of his co-workers to dry by themselves" he was always behind them and he tried to call everyone by name and motivate co-workers to their fullest potential.
Nick was very proud to have been a Shawnee Fire Department Volunteer/Lieutenant and Shawnee Fire & Rescue Department Volunteer/Emergency Medical Technician. Nick was currently on the boards of: Shawnee Mission Medical Center Foundation, Shawnee Planning Commission, Shawnee Downtown Partnership Revitalization Committee and the Shawnee Economic Development Council.
