Rachel Leigh Silk

Rachel Leigh Silk, born on December 28, 1967, in Kansas City, KS, passed away on February 15, 2024, in Kansas City, MO, at the age of 56. She fought a courageous battle against Stage 4 colon cancer with metastasis to the brain, liver, and adrenal glands.

Throughout her life, Rachel was known for her dedication and hard work. She had a diverse work experience, including positions at Butler Construction, St. Luke's Health System, NAIA, and Starlight. Her commitment to her work and community touched many lives.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Rachel had a passion for creating jewelry and spending quality time with friends. She found solace and companionship at Camp Bluebird for cancer patients, where she connected with others facing similar challenges. Rachel was also actively involved in the St. David's Welsh Society of Kansas City Board of Directors.

Rachel's educational journey was marked by her attendance at Johnson County Community College, UMKC, and Park University. She had a strong spirit of service and volunteered her time to deliver supplies and encouragement to the homeless in Kansas City.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Rachel is survived by her mother, Lucy Silk, her father and step-mother, Ben and Gina Silk, and her cousins Kate Kile Wiehoff, Jenny Walker, Malina Kile Carpenter, and Gay Kile Walker. Along with a lifetime of friends who have been with her throughout her life and helped her through her long and courageous battle with cancer.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Ruth Rosamond Kile Jones and Edward William Jones, paternal grandparents Dorothy Silk and Lester Silk, and step-grandparents Robena Monstrola and James Monstrola.

A celebration of Rachel's life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS. Visitation will take place from 2:00-3:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm. Rachel will be remembered for her strength, generosity, and unwavering spirit. May her memory continue to inspire those who knew her.
