Ralph C. Long, 94, a long-time resident of Overland Park, KS, passed away on May 12, 2024 at Silvercrest College View in Lenexa, KS where he resided for the past six years.

Ralph was born and raised on a farm in Bynumville, Missouri. He served as a United States Marine during the Korean War, 1952-1953. During most of his service, he was stationed in San Francisco, CA and San Diego, CA. Ralph went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO and did his post-graduate studies at the University of Missouri Kansas City. In 1960, he married his wife, Amelia, and they had three children. Amelia passed in 2000 after 40 years of marriage.

For most of Ralph’s working life, he worked at Corwin Company. On the side, he also invested in real estate and owned several rental properties. After retiring in 1994, Ralph spent 25 years volunteering at the University of Kansas Medical Center. In 2013, Ingram’s business magazine honored Ralph as one of their “Heroes in Healthcare” for his volunteer work.

Ralph had a passion for traveling. He visited all 50 states and over 40 countries during his travels. He was a devout Catholic and a long-time parishioner of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was also a regular fixture at various dances held at American Legions and other venues. He loved country music and spending time with his family.

Ralph will be remembered for his calm and friendly demeanor, strong work ethic, and strong faith.

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, William and Katherine Long; brothers, Jerome and Wilbert Long; and his wife, Amelia Long.

He is survived by three sisters, Louise Brewer, Kathleen Davolt, and Deloris Ewigman; three children, Linda (Stephen) Samuelson, Dale (Maria) Long, and Jane (Michael) Weyer; five grandchildren, Rachel Samuelson, Jessica (Michael) Dilenschneider, Nathan Long, John (Alexandra) Samuelson, and Alexander Samuelson; and five great grandchildren, Amelia, Adriana, Henry, Luka and Theo.

A Visitation will be held on June 14, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7203 W. 71st Street, Overland Park, KS. Ralph will be laid to rest next to his wife, Amelia, at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.
