Randall "Randy" Phillips

May 6, 1948 — August 17, 2024

Liberty

Randall “Randy” Carl Phillips, age 76, of Liberty, MO died at home on August 17, 2024, surrounded by his wife and family, his baptism in Christ, complete. Randy had a brief time of hospice care after a metastatic melanoma diagnosis, but lived his life with purpose and love to his last breath, just as he had done for more than seven decades, a life full of gratitude, laughter, and service.

Randy was the youngest of three boys, born to Carl Shannon and Rose Nadine (Ellison) Phillips, on May 6, 1948, in Kansas City, MO. Graduating from Raytown South High School in 1966, he then graduated from the University of Kansas (RCJH!) in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, and immediately entered the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. Four days after completing basic training, Randy married the love of his life, Patricia (Winn) on July 24, 1971, beginning a lifetime of adventures.

Welcoming a son and two daughters along the way, Randy and Pat moved from Kansas City to La Crosse, WI, Dublin, OH, Syracuse, NY, and Ballwin, MO, before finally moving home to Liberty, MO in the early 1990s. Having surrounded themselves with extended family and friends in each of these communities, Randy’s death is grieved by many.

Throughout his life, Randy and Pat were always focused on activities of their children and grandchildren, attending games, performances, and activities, in addition to sharing their life of faith with the family in each city they lived, finally at Liberty Christian Church (DOC). For the last twenty-three years, the Lake of the Ozarks was also a favorite place to create memories with a wide group of family and friends.

Inspired by his service to God and country, Randy continued a life of service after his retirement from the HVAC industry, volunteering for numerous community organizations. He joined Pat at Micah Ministry, served with Rebuilding Together Clay County, and worked on numerous “honey-do” projects for all his children and “adopted” children. Just weeks before his death, Randy began a bathroom renovation with his daughter, teaching his grandson along the way.

Randy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat, son Chad Phillips (Christie) and daughters Kerri Marshall (Garrett) and Laura Phillips; grandchildren Madeline and Jack Phillips, Kate, Charlie, and Will Marshall, and Tobias Peter; brother Lyle Phillips, and sister-in-law, Myrna Phillips (TX) and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by a wide group of family and friends, too numerous to list, all around the world.

A visitation for Randy will be held at Liberty Christian Church (DOC) Friday, August 23, 2024 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm, and a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:00am, also at Liberty Christian Church. Interment will be held immediately following the service at Glendridge Cemetery of Liberty on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, to celebrate Randy and the many places he shared his life and love, you are encouraged to make a gift to a charity that you also find meaningful:

· Liberty Christian Church (DOC)

· Tall Oaks Camp and Conference Center

· Micah Ministry

· Rebuilding Together Kansas City
