Ray McGuire, 77, of Shawnee, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Ray was born February 23, 1941 to the late Tirrel and Bernice McGuire in Los Angeles, CA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1959 and piloted a landing supply craft suppling ground troops in the early days of the Vietnam Conflict. After his service, Ray became a concrete materials driver for several companies in the Kansas City area before retiring in 1999 after over 35 years of service.
Ray had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to share. He was a self taught musician that could play many instruments. Ray had many talents including wood carving and gardening. He was a member of American Legion Post 327 and Teamsters Local 541. Ray is preceded in death by his son, Richard McGuire and two brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Phyllis McGuire; four daughters, Angela Gambill; Cheri Reese and husband Tom; Stacy Vandemark and husband Steve; Kelley Wenz and husband Wayne; a son, Doug Emberton; 3 sisters, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, September 21 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
