Raymond "Gene" Campbell, 88, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 29th, 2016, in the presence of his loving wife. Gene was the first born son to Raymond and Louise Campbell, born on Friday, July 20th, 1928. He began his life in Rulo, Nebraska, where he spent most of his childhood helping his Mother and Father tend to their farm. He attended Elementary School in a one room schoolhouse, on the reservation, and later Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, Kansas.
Gene married Marilyn "Lynde" Hegarty on June 3rd, 1978
He was a meat cutter and managed several stores, eventually becoming the Regional Manager for Associated Wholesale Grocers. Following AWG, Gene's success with sales led him to purchase his own store, "Gene's Thriftway", in Leavenworth, Kansas, where he and Lynde, worked together, in the retail grocery business. He later went on to work with HyVee in Kansas City.
One of Gene's many hobbies was flying, for which he proudly obtained his Private Pilot's License, enjoying thousands of flight miles. In his later years, he bought, ran and eventually sold, his own vending company, "Campbell's Cravings", which was a very successful endeavor.
Gene Campbell, a Native American, was proud of his rich heritage and was well respected among those in the Iowa Tribe of Kansas & Nebraska. He loved vacationing with his family and traveling. Colorado and the Lake of the Ozarks were two of his favorite places to unwind and enjoy activities like fishing, boating, snow and water skiing.
Gene is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Marilyn "Lynde", of the home, in Shawnee, KS.
Other survivors include; His children; Darin Campbell, of the home, in Shawnee, KS, Larry Campbell, Shawnee, KS, Marcia Gibson, and her husband, Wayne Gibson, of Lenexa, KS, and son-in-law, Charlton Walker, Eudora, KS.
Gene's siblings; Brother, Bill Campbell, and his wife, Mary Jim, of Summerfield, FL, Brother, Terry Campbell, and his wife, Maddie, of Falls City, Nebraska, one sister, Sharon Kroese, and her husband, Gale Helmink, of Lincoln, NE., and Sister-in-law, Judy Campbell (Jerry) Gene has 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren who loved him dearly and will miss their Poppy.
He was preceded in death by; both parents, Raymond and Louis Campbell, his daughter, Beth Campbell Walker, Eudora, KS, grand-daughter, Kimberle Gibson of Shawnee, KS and two brothers, Jerry Campbell of Lincoln, NE, and Don Campbell, of Lincoln, NE.

The graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2nd, 2016 at the Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 83rd and Quivera Rd, Lenexa, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or The National Kidney Association.
