Raymond E. Rawie

September 5, 1926 — May 7, 2009

Raymond Earl Rawie, 82, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away suffering from a broken heart for eight months after the loss of his wife of 59 years, Dorothy. Ray went to be with Dorothy on Thursday, May 7, 2009 and was surrounded by his family when he left.

Ray was born September 5, 1926 in Stanley, Kansas, the son of Homer and Ellen Rawie. He was preceded in death by one of his brothers, Donald "Cork" Rawie. Ray was a funeral coach salesman for over 50 years working for Southwest Professional Vehicles. He sold many cars to funeral homes in a four state area and received numerous sales awards during his career. Ray was dedicated and truly loved this line of work. He also operated Ray's O.K. Service previously at Shawnee Mission Parkway (K-10 Highway) & Nieman Road from the early 1950's to the early 1960's. During that time he raced dirt track cars and sponsored and coached a Shawnee Optimist youth baseball team.

Ray was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also a 60 year member of the Stanley, Kansas Masonic Lodge and a charter member of the Shawnee Presbyterian Church.

Ray is survived by all of his children. Mark and Kathy Rawie of Lenexa, Vicki and Ron Collins of Fort Worth, Texas, Steve and Abbie Rawie of Shawnee, and Joe Rawie and Michelle Harris of Desoto. He is also survived by a brother, Noel Rawie and his wife Carolyn of Surprise, Arizona. Ray was a proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren with one on the way. There are no words that can describe how much this great man will be missed by his family and friends.

Visitation and Funeral Services

A visitation will be at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, Monday, May 11, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Shawnee Presbyterian Church, 6837 Nieman Road in Shawnee at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, Kansas.
