Raymond "Ray" C. Lewis

Raymond Charles Lewis, 83, passed away surrounded by his wife Sharon and daughter Sarah on April 2, 2023 at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park, after suffering from a brain tumor and other complications in July 2022.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas. Raymond will be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery following his service.

Raymond was born on October 26, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Frank Lewis and Marie Weber-Lewis. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Frank and James. His sister Shirley lives in Fox Lake, Illinois.

He graduated from Mendel Catholic High School in 1957 in Chicago. During his growing-up years, he met his to be life-long friend George Arthur at the age of 13 and graduated from high school together. Although George has been living in Stillwater, Minnesota, they have continued to keep in contact all these years.

Ray started working at Continental Insurance Co. in Chicago around 1957, right out of high school. He retired at the age of 70 from CGU Insurance, whereafter he enjoyed spending time reading, working on the computer, watching TV, going to the movies with Sharon, talking and visiting with his family, and eating lunch at McDonalds!

He married his first wife Joan Barchard in 1961 (deceased in 1998), and had three children Laurie, Greg and Sarah. Laurie married Tom Ewers and had two daughters Megan and Morgan (Laurie is now deceased). Greg married Sharon Haberkorn and they had two sons Benjamin and Blake (divorced in 2010). Greg met Lauralee Kasallis and they married in 2016. She has two sons Erik and Kyle.

Ray met Sharon Hall at work, fell in love and they married in 2002. They have been married for 20 years. Sharon had a daughter Dawn Reneé from a previous marriage, who died in 2012 (she never married or had children).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Raymond’s name may be made to CRI (Cancer Research Institute).
