Rebecca Maria Circo

September 22, 1977 — May 22, 2020

Rebecca Maria Circo was born on September 22, 1977 in Hastings, Nebraska.  She was adopted as a newborn by her parents, Bobbi Johnson and Carl Circo.  She died at her home in Shawnee, Kansas, on May 22, 2020.  Rebecca is survived by her parents, by her sister Elizabeth Circo, by her brothers Joseph Circo, Sang Circo, Michael Circo, and John Circo, by her sisters-in-law Mary Circo and Joy Circo, her nephew Alexander Circo, her niece Alia Circo, and her extended family: the Albros, the Fictums, the Monicos, the Sabatas, and the Springers. Rebecca graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1996 where she played volleyball, was the slowest runner on the track team, and made many life-long friends.  She earned her Associates Degree in Graphic Art from the Al Collins Graphic Design School in Tempe, Arizona, and completed a summer in residence at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, California.  She was a devoted artist, who excelled in oil and acrylic painting and pencil sketches.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Shawnee, Kansas.

Rebecca loved all animals, especially cats and corgi dogs.  She participated in English style equestrian sports when she was young.  She was a dedicated sports fan who followed the Kansas City Chiefs, the Royals, and most of all Kansas Jayhawks Men’s Basketball.  She delighted at the beach when she could get to the west coast with her sister or brother.  She enjoyed all types of food, but especially alfredo pasta.  Although she was often reserved, when she smiled it shone upon the world.  Her greatest treasure was a soft baby blanket her Grandma Johnson made.  She took it wherever she went, even to Rome, and slept with it every night.  Her comfort was wore into a shredded, raggedy tangle, but was cherished nevertheless to her final day.  Rebecca’s spirit will live on through her art, through the lives she touched, and through the memories she blessed us with.
