Rev. Garrett A. Herwich

October 6, 1936 — April 24, 2017

Rev. Garrett A. Herwich, 80, went home to be with the Lord April 24, 2017, at The University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan October 6, 1936, to Remmert and Helen Herwich. He graduated from Athens (MI) High School, Grand Rapids (MI) School of the Bible and Music, and Calvary Bible College, Kansas City, MO. He met Yvonne Terwilliger at GRSBM and they were married August 7, 1960. He was ordained to the ministry in 1966 by Grace Bible Church, Grandville, MI. He pastored churches in Michigan, Indiana, and Kansas. He was a long time member of the IFCA in which he had held various offices.  He was a member of Woodson Avenue Bible Church, Overland Park, KS. Garrett was still very active in the church as a board member and Sunday school teacher, also ministering at nursing homes in Olathe, KS. He served many years as a Chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol, Olathe Chapter. He was employed by GE Capital for 17 years and retired from GE in 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Tracy Waterhouse, of Athens, MI.  He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, married 56 years, daughter Kristina (Jeffrey) O'Connell of Bucyrus, KS, son Dr. Kurtis Herwich of Neodesha, KS, and grandchildren Mirelia, John, Estella and Daniel O'Connell. Also his sister Joyce (Gary) Miller of Burlinton, MI. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully throughout his years. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Services

Services will be at Woodson Avenue Bible Church Friday, April 28, 2017. Visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m.  An additional service will be held on Monday, May l, 2017, at Lehman Chapel-Shaw Funeral Home in Bellevue, MI. Burial in Bellevue Cemetery.
