Richard Dale Hamilton

Richard Dale Hamilton, born on August 6, 1945; died on September 26, 2023 of Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer.

Richard was born in Denver, CO to William Dale Hamilton and Harriett Harrod Hamilton. He was raised in Aurora where he was active in church and Scouts and enjoyed many family gatherings in Wyoming. Later, he worked at Famous Men’s Clothing. He graduated from Aurora High in 1963 and went on to Ottawa University where he was active in student government.

In 1967 Richard graduated and married Carole Carter. Daughter Stephanie was born five years later. Richard served his country in the US Army, Vietnam, 101st Airborne Division; he always mentioned that his college degree allowed him to support the infantry battalion in an administrative role. He began a long career with Southwestern Bell/AT&T. He proudly volunteered with Junior Achievement, Optimist Club and Ottawa University.

In 1990 Richard married Claudette and gained a son, Michael. Richard and Claudette enjoyed 35 years together and a long retirement with extensive travel and wonderful times with family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Claudette Powell Hamilton, daughter Stephanie Hamilton (Chris Anderson), son Michael Upshaw, brother Gary Hamilton (Lana), grandchildren Ava and Erik Anderson and Parker and Leela Upshaw, and his nephews and nieces.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. We will always remember his dry wit and the twinkle in his eye.
