Richard Sherman, 93, Prairie Village, Kansas passed away, Sunday, July 12, 2009 at his home.

Richard Temple Sherman was born in Stella, Nebraska, April 16, 1916 and attended school there. He graduated from Peru State Teachers College in Peru, Nebraska where he met Corinne Barnts of Odell, Nebraska. His parents were Lee and Mary Sherman of Stella and later Auburn, Nebraska. He had two sisters, Hallie and Lucille and two brothers, Donald and Wilbur. Richard taught elementary school for three years in western Nebraska. Corinne and Richard were married August 10, 1940 at the First Christian Church of Beatrice, Nebraska. He served in the Air Force in World II. Their son, Stephen Richard was born October, 1949 in Alliance, Nebraska.

The family moved from Alliance to Wichita, Kansas in 1950 where Richard and Corinne lived until they retired. Richard worked in various capacities in the airline industry and later for Enron Paint Company until his retirement. The family was very active in the Millbrook and University Christian churches in Wichita. After retirement, Corinne and Richard moved to Prairie Village, Kansas in 1986. They were members of the Overland Park Christian Church.

Corinne preceded him in death on March 25, 2001 after several years of illness during which he was her caregiver. Richard is survived by son Steve, daughter-in-law Joan Sherman, and two granddaughters, Maggie and Becca Sherman of Lenexa, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.Contributions may, be sent to Overland Park Christian Church, 7600 W. 75th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66204.

Funeral Service

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee; burial in the Antioch Cemetery, Merriam, Kansas. Friends may call from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., at the chapel.
