Richard Earl Smith, Sr. (Smitty), age 84, of Shawnee, KS, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Smitty was a lifelong resident of Shawnee, a Korean war veteran (U.S. Navy) and retired from KCP&L in 1981 after 27 years. He had a love for farming and gardening. Later in life he enjoyed spending time with family and church friends and reading western novels. He is preceded in death by wife Shirley Smith and daughter Ellen Smith. He is survived by Richard Smith Jr. (Emma) of Lee’s Summit MO, Steven Smith of Rio Vista, CA, David Smith (Kathy) of Smithvillle MO, Anna Smith of Shawnee KS and Mary Miller of Olathe KS and 7 grandchildren, his brother Robert “Doc” Smith (Margaret) of Shawnee, KS and extended family.

Funeral Service & Visitation

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 5325 Nieman Rd., Shawnee, KS 66203 (a reception will follow). Inurnment will take place at a later date.
