Richard “Rick” Allen Wahaus

October 20, 1941 — April 19, 2012

Richard "Rick" Allen Wahaus lost his battle with cancer on April 19, 2012. Rick was born October 20, 1941, in Chapman, Kansas,

He was a graduate of the University of Kansas and spent 32 years working for Vita Craft Corporation of Shawnee, Kansas. During his tenure he was Vice President of Manufacturing, a member of the board of directors of parent company Rennaware, served as President of the Cookware Manufactures Association, and President of the Shawnee Mission Rotary Club.

Rick had a passion for all things automotive and enjoyed all forms of motorsport. He traveled all over of the United States, family in tow, to watch racing on road courses from Sebring, Longbeach, Elkhart Lake, Wentzville, and Heartland Park. He enjoyed golf and fishing at the lake.

Rick had a keen intellect and sharp wit and was always quick with a joke. His smile and laughter could light up a room and he will be missed.

He is survived by Sharie his wife of 27 years and loving care giver for the last 14 1/2 years; his children Andy, Rick, Carrie, Michael, Michelle, and Kelley; and "Honey's" grandchildren Jason, Dean, Makenzi, Samantha, Mika, Liam, Devin, Chayton, and Megan; brothers Herb, Don, Charles, and Leroy; and mother in law Marge. He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Alfreda and brother Gary.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The American Stroke Foundation or Kansas City Hospice .
