Robert Bremer

June 7, 1927 — July 21, 2016

Robert Edmund Bremer, 89, of Prairie Village, Kansas, was peacefully called to his eternal home on July 21, 2016. He was born June 7, 1927, in Faribault, Minnesota to George H. and Louise (Bauer) Bremer. The youngest of six children Bob spent his childhood years in Faribault, graduating from Faribault High School in 1945. On May 29, 1945, Bob joined the US Navy and was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Station located near North Chicago. Bob was given his sea assignment aboard the USS LCI 529 and spent his time during World War II serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Shortly after returning from the US Navy, Bob married Phyllis V. Chambers on October 22, 1949 and on that date the two began their 66-year life together moving to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1957 the couple moved to Prairie Village, Kansas and spent 59 years in their home on 73rd Terrace where they raised their five children. Bob and Phyllis' entire life was grounded on their faith in God which was practiced at both Calvary Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO and Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS. Bob served faithfully at Calvary Lutheran for more than twenty five years in leadership as the head elder, Chairman of the Board of Education, trustees, Sunday-School teacher, and usher on Sunday mornings. Bob was not a Sunday- morning Christian. He would begin his mornings in the corner of the living room, reading his bible while waiting for his car pool. His children remember their Dad daily leading his family in evening prayers, reading scriptures and devotions from Portals of Prayers.

Due to his naval background Bob was employed by the Bendix Corporation, later called Allied Signal. In 1949 Bendix began operating the Kansas City facility for the Atomic Energy Commission building non-nuclear components for nuclear weapons. Bob worked in Department 151 which designed and built comprehensive test equipment used on manufactured electronic components. In 1990 Bob retired from Allied Signal completing 44 years of service.

Hunting and fishing were two life-time hobbies but Bob had a passion for fast-pitch softball. He began playing fast-pitch softball on teams with his brother and cousins in Faribault. Bob was an exceptional pitcher and in 1961 their Bendix team, Wilbert Burial Vaults, won the Kansas City Northeast Softball tournament. Bob was voted the tournament's most valuable player.

Survivors include his daughter Phyllis B. Fox (Roger) of Freeman, MO; son Steven R. Bremer (Marilyn) of Topeka, KS; daughter Barbara J. Farmer of Harrison, Arkansas; son S. Thomas (Tom) Bremer (Brenda) of Olathe, KS; and Timothy J. Bremer (Suzanne) of Wildwood, MO. Through their children Bob was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
