Robert Evans Coyle, 84, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 12, 2011.

Bob was born on February 20, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Clifford and Inez Coyle. He graduated from Sulfur Springs, Arkansas High School. Bob was a World War II Veteran. He served on Adak Island in Alaska.

Bob married the love of his life, Vera Louise Millard at First Christian Church in Emporia, Kansas, on September 17, 1950. They met at Commander-Larabee Milling Company in Kansas City, Missouri.

He began his career in insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield and retired from Supermarket Insurance Agency of Associated Wholesale Grocers in 1992.

Bob was an active member of Countryside Christian Church for over 50 years. He was active in the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Bob was Master of Shawnee Masonic Lodge #54 in 1967. He was active in Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years. Bob was Past Worthy Patron of Beatrice Chapter #450 in Shawnee, Kansas. He was active in the American Legion Post #370 in Overland Park for more than 30 years, and the Auxillary to secure college scholarships for Veterans' children. Bob was an active member of Milburn Country Club for over 20 years. He loved playing golf with his friends at Milburn. He shot six holes in one over the years across the country. He also enjoyed playing gin, hunting, and fishing. He and Vera traveled extensively.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Dick and Joe. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vera; son, Mike, married to Susan of Shawnee, Kansas; one grandchild, Mary, married to John King of Roeland Park, Kansas; and several nephews and nieces.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Trinity Nursing and Rehab Center, and Kansas City Hospice House staffs for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Masonic Scholarship Fund, Kansas City Hospice House, or the charity of your choice.

Visitation and Funeral Service

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee on July 15, 2011. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Inurnment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
