Robert “Bob” Hamblett Crowther

b. March 17, 1925

Robert H. Crowther, 86, of Lenexa, passed away Sunday, February 19.

Robert was born March 17, 1925 to the late Louis E. Crowther and Julia Emmaline Hamblett in Amherst, New Hampshire.

Bob served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Corps 6th Bomb Group during World War II. After his service, he married Mary Nan McKeever September 8, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bob earned a Chemical Engineering Degree from Fenn College and later went on to earn his Master's in Chemical Engineering from Kansas State University. Upon graduating from KSU, he went to work for Standard Oil for 18 years. Later, Bob worked as a consultant for C. W. Nofsinger Co. Bob was active in the Delaware River Crossing Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and served as the State Recorder for the SAR. He was also a member of the Mayflower Society and American Institute of Chemical Engineers where he served as President. Bob authored a book on his family history titled "Descendants of Augustus Hubley of Nova Scotia".

Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara, and sister, Lois.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nan Crowther, two sons, Phil Crowther and wife Janet; and Hugh Crowther; a daughter, Debbie Ross and husband Allan; three grandchildren, Jason Crowther and wife Nan; Lisa Crowther, Lindsey Hogrefe and husband Andrew; three great grandchildren, Pierson Crowther, Emily Crowther, and James Hogrefe; a sister Linda Froelich and husband Bob and brother Wayne Crowther and wife Kathy.

Contributions

The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church; 11901 Pflumm, Overland Park, KS 66213; or to Kansas State University Foundation, 2323 Anderson, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 24 at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at the Treetop Room at Lakeview Village-Southridge.
