Robert A. Dwight, 86, of Shawnee, passed away Friday February 18 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64105 or to the Alzheimer’s Association-Heart of America Chapter, 3846 W. 75th St, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

Bob was born April 2, 1924 to the late Elmer and Ada Dwight on the family farm in Coffey County, Kansas. Bob served in U.S. Army during the Korean War as an Anti-Aircraft Artilleryman. After Bob left the Army he married Marjory Dornes on May 24th 1953 in Burlington, Kansas. Their marriage of 25 years produced four children, James, Timothy, Ann, and Paul. Bob became a licensed Barber in 1954 and continued as a Barber until he retired in 1994. On March 22nd, 1980 he married his second wife, Marion Kile at Emanuel Baptist Church in Overland Park.

Bob was a life member of Shawnee American Legion Post #327, and was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Overland Park where he served as a Deacon and Greeter. Bob enjoyed mowing the church grass and was always there to help the neighbors with their yards when needed. Bob survived a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2000.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Ann, a step son Walter, and step daughter, Alice.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Marion, of 31 years; three sons, James, Timothy and Paul Dwight; two step sons, Paul and James Kile; two step daughters, Nola Culver and Janice Ingram; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
