Robert “Bob” G. Ford

December 28, 1932 — December 10, 2018

Robert "Bob" Gene Ford, age 85, passed away December 10, 2018, at his home in Lenexa, KS. Bob was born December 28, 1932, in Moline, Illinois, to Everett Lee Ford and Mary (DeBord) Ford Fry. He was a 1950 graduate of Geneseo High School in Geneseo, IL, and went on to complete a bachelor's degree at Mid America Nazarene College. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War.  On September 5, 1953, Bob married his childhood sweetheart, Phyllis Irene (Bulen) Ford, and they had four daughters. He was a dedicated family man and very active in his church. Bob spent the majority of his career "talking to airplanes" as an air traffic controller with the FAA. He also served with International Aviation in Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh. In their retirement, Bob and Phyllis spent many years serving as missionaries in Bangladesh with Baptist Mid Missions and then as Midwest representatives for Bibles International.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters, and a great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters Connie (Gary) Helmers of Kansas City, MO; Linda (Jim) Morgan of Memphis, MO; Diana (Dan) Griffin of Overland Park, KS; and Alice (Jeff) Bunjer of Ankeny, IA; as well as 12 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Bob was a big man with a big heart who passionately loved God and his family and spent his life investing in others. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him.

Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Sat., Dec. 15 at the Olivet Baptist Church, 4901 Mission Rd., Westwood, KS; burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
