Robert “Herky” Haynes

Robert "Herky" Haynes, 84 of Shawnee, passed away Monday, September 26, 2011, at his home.

Robert was born February 26, 1927, in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Turner High School until joining the Navy. Herky served in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Stentor, during World War II. He married Alice Bierman on May 12, 1969, in Oklahoma. Bob was a member of American Legion Post #327.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and one daughter. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Alice; four daughters, Sheryl Leavey, Brenda Osborne and husband Corwin, Gayla Hoit and husband Steve, Theresa Bradshaw; two sons, Ron Bierman and wife Viola, and Gary Haynes; 19 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 1:30 pm to 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with burial in Old Monticello Cemetery
