Robert H. Hunt, 92, of Overland Park, KS passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park.
Robert was born August 30, 1923 in Carthage, MO. Robert attended Rosedale High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Bob served with the 4th Marine Division in the battle of Saipan and was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in the battle of Iwo Jima, where he witnessed the raising of the American flag over Mt. Suribachi. After returning home from the war, Bob married Grace Marie Crooks in November 1945. She preceded him in death in May 2004. He is also preceded in death by a son, Nathan Jay Hunt.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Nancy Reilly; Neva Laws and husband Floyd; four grandchildren, Dale Sawyer, Jr. and wife Ruth; Sandy McDowell and husband George; Danny Sawyer; Kevin Laws; five great grandchildren, Lindsay Ames and husband John; Taylor McDowell; Jordan McDowell; Blair Sawyer; Sean Sawyer; two great great grandchildren Colston Ames and Tyler Ames.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 13th at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Overland Park. Robert will lie in state from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Amos Family Funeral Home.
