Robert C. Lanman, PhD, 86, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at The Kansas City Hospice House. Bob was born October 2, 1930 in Bemidji, Minnesota to Thomas and Inga Lanman. Bob was a 1948 graduate of Grand Rapids (MN) High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as an aerial photographer in the Korean War. When his naval service concluded in 1952, Bob graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1956 with a B.S. in Pharmacy. In 1957, while working as a pharmacist at Whittemore Drug Company in Grand Rapids, Minnesota he met and eventually married Dorothy Ann Desnoyers. Bob pursued his PhD in Pharmacology over the next several years while conducting his research at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. He earned his Doctorate in Pharmacology from the University of Minnesota in 1967. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Kansas City where Bob accepted a faculty position at UMKC teaching pharmacology and toxicology until his retirement in 1992. He received several awards as the Professor of the Year in Pharmacology along with other society honors. Bob also was a successful entrepreneur co-founding Kansas City Analytical Services (KCAS) in 1978, with his business partner William Mason. KCAS is still a progressive growing organization today. In his leisure time Bob enjoyed arranging music and singing. He was a member of Faith Quartet, the church choir, and was an avid member of the Four Freshmen Society. He loved to fish and ride four-wheelers in the Minnesota woods around their Sugar Lake summer home. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, children; Michael (Trish) Lanman, Dianne (Mark) Gust, Douglas (Tiffany) Lanman, and Krista (Mike) Wingate, nine grandchildren; Kyler, Erik, Megan, Abby, Robert, Jennifer, Natalie, Braden, Katelyn, and brother, Thomas Lanman. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, James Lanman.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7851 W. 119th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66213 with a funeral service immediately following at 11a.m. Burial will take place at Itasca Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
