Robert peacefully passed away on March 15, 2021 in the loving care of family and KC Hospice at the age of 79. He leaves behind his wife, Diane Loney; their daughters, Jennifer Tábuas and Sarah Ashby (Richard); their sons, Michael Loney (Kristen) and Jacob Loney.

Robert was born August 11, 1941 in Kansas City, MO to Otis Levi Loney and Julia Juanita Loney, who preceded him in death. A few years after graduating from Southeast High School Kansas City, MO in 1960, Robert enlisted in the Army in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1966. During this time, he served one year in the Vietnam War in which he was honored by an Air Medal with 8th OLC.

After the army, Robert married Diane Ranck on December 9th, 1966 and would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. Robert had a passion for planes, learning mechanical jobs, and was a master of “tinkering and puttering”. He ended his maintenance career of 19 years in 2013 with Johnson County, KS.

Robert is survived by his wife, four children; nine grandchildren, Breann Loney, Max Alvarez, Ericka Loney, Zoë Krygiel, Maya Krygiel, Ethan Loney, Emma Loney, Electra Loney and Eva Devorak; two great grandchildren, Jordan Loney and Journee Loney, as well as his sister Cheryl Atkiss (Paul), brother Jimmy Loney, cousin Lee Scruggs and many nieces and nephews.

To sum up the life of Robert is a quote from his mom in his baby book, “…ornery like all of us!”

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday March 27th at Amos Family, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
