Robert Armacost Wood, Sr., 73, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.
Bob was born March 15, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Lamont and Jean Ruth Wood. He was in the first graduating class of Shawnee Mission East High School in 1959. Bob served in the National Guard before earning his BA degree at the University of Kansas. While at Kansas he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity and later served on it's Alumni Board of Trustees. After passing his CPA exam, Bob went to work at Ernst & Ernst. Later he worked at Jackson & Co., McKittrick & Maddox and finally as an independent CPA.
Bob's passion was working with the Boy Scouts of America. He served as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Committee Chair for many Scout Units in addition to many district level positions. While Scoutmaster for Troop 246 in Shawnee, Kansas, he helped over 30 young men earn the rank of Eagle Scout. In 2010 the Heart of America Council awarded Bob with the Silver Beaver, the highest award given to a volunteer. Bob was highly involved with the Tribe of Mic-O-Say where he earned the rank of Sagamore in the Tribal Council.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Monty Wood. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Nancy Wood; two sons, Robert A. (Kim) Wood, Jr. and William A. (Jennifer) Wood; grandchildren, Abriana, Andrew and Brooke Wood all of Lenexa, Kansas; sister Dianne Johnson, Shawnee, Kansas and brother, Lee (Pat) Wood, Reno, Nevada.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Amos Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2014, at the funeral home; burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.
Mic-O-Say members are asked to wear their claws to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to either, the Boy Scouts of America or the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation.
