Rodney E. Peniston

September 25, 1925 — July 21, 2012

Rodney Elwell Peniston, 86, died July 21, 2012, at Sharon Lane Health Services in Shawnee, Kansas.

He was born September 25, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Lenexa Grade School and graduated from Shawnee MissionNorth High School in 1943. During WWII, he served in the Merchant Marines. He graduated from Maritime Boot Camp at Sheepshead Bay, New York in 1943 and Officer Candidate School at New London, Connecticut in 1945.

He worked at Folgers Coffee Company after the war and met his wife, Beatrice. Through his life he worked at Kansas City Power and Light, Sears, Continental Lithographers, Greiner-Fifield Lithographers and retired from Midland Lithographing in 1986. During his lithography years he taught pressmanship at Manual and Westport High. He began a second career in real estate working for Gary Smith Realtors, Charlotte's Exclusive Homes, Caldwell Banker Charlotte's and Coldwell Banker Graham. Real Estate was a passion he enjoyed until 1996.

He was preceded in death by parents John and Harriett (Metcalfe) Peniston, and brother, Donald (Pete) L. Peniston. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Beatrice A. (Crossland) of the home; daughters Terry (Spencer) Perrin of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Jerry (Dave) Walker of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sons David Wayne Peniston, Wheatland, Missouri, and Michael (Margaret) Peniston, Shawnee, Kansas;four grandsons and five granddaughters and their spouses and children; and sister Sue (William) Weiden, Shawnee, Kansas.

Rodney's family would especially thank the doctors and staff at Sharon Lane Health Services.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Amos Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
