Roger Lee Woebbecke

January 5, 1938 — September 22, 2018

Roger Lee Woebbecke was born to Anna and John Woebbecke on January 5, 1938 at Seward Memorial Hospital, Seward, Nebraska and passed away on September 22, 2018 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center at the age of 80. Roger was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Milford, Nebraska and attended church with his family. He graduated from Seward High School on May 25, 1956. He enlisted in the Navy Reserves, December 1955. Roger was united in marriage to Ilene Jisa on February 14, 1957 and celebrated 61 years of marriage in 2018.

Roger served two years active duty as a radioman in the Navy aboard the USS Tortuge, traveling to Hawaii and to Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands where they participated in preparation for Atomic Bomb testing. The ship hit a reef and was sent back to California, ending planned further trips to Japan.

After returning to civilian life, Roger was hired by Dictaphone Corporation and had a career spanning 38 years, first as Service Representative and then Sales Management/Branch Sales Manager, Lincoln, NE; Branch Sales Mgr., Spokane, WA; Area Sales Mgr., Seattle, WA; District Manager, Salt Lake City, UT; District Manager, Kansas City, MO; Regional Mgr., Dealer Markets Div.-Mountain Region; Regional Mgr., Special Markets Division/Telecommunications-Central Region; Area Sales Mgr., Communications Recording Systems Division, Mountain, South Central, Southern and Western Regions. Roger Retired in January 1998.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and John, his brother Marlin and his sister Vera Radford. He is survived by his sister, Wilma Ninneman of Denton, NE, his wife, Ilene Woebbecke of Shawnee, KS; his daughter, Carol Woebbecke of Shawnee, KS; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Woebbecke of Shawnee, KS; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Roger enjoyed motorcycle riding, camping, boating, waterskiing, and traveled the western US in his motorhome. He could fix anything; build anything he put his mind to. He collected HO trains, angels, mermaids, and eagles. He was a strong caring man who loved his life, friends, family, and his constant companions, Shadow and Toby Jack.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 29 at 2:00 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203 with an inurnment to follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.
