Roland W. Garrett, 89, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, Kansas.
Roland was born March 16, 1921 in Shawnee, Kansas, to Floyd and Lulu (Gastl) Garrett. He was a 1939 graduate of the Shawnee Mission Rural High School and attended Kansas City Kansas Junior College. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corp during WWII.
Roland owned and operated, along with brothers, Howard and Gene, Garrett's Food Market in Shawnee. He was a lifelong member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church, the American Legion Peter Smith Post 327 and was a member and served as captain of the Shawnee Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Howard Garrett. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Norma (Henricks) Garrett; daughters, Carolyn Sue (Ronald) Adams, Jefferson, Maryland and Jackie L. (Michael) Swafford, Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Donald Gene (Susan) Garrett, Shawnee, Kansas; brothers, William M. Garrett, Shawnee, Kansas and Floyd Gene Garrett, Sabetha, Kansas; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Service
Visitation will be from 4-6 pm, Sunday, July 18, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Shawnee United Methodist Church; burial in Shawnee Cemetery.
