Rosalie “Rosie” M. Mckown

June 9, 1927 — January 16, 2020

Rosalie Margaret McKown (Rosie) passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020.  Rosie was 92 years old. She was the daughter of the late Catherine and Frank Van Derhagen and was born on June 9, 1927 in Shawnee, Kansas. She was survived by her sister Susie Fanning and brother, Maurice Van Derhagen and her children, Joyce Deckard (Rod), Ron Lust (Joyce Ann), Cindy Martin, Donna Thompson and Mike Lust (Shelley).  Rosie was  survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Rosie married Cyril (June) Lust, Jr. on August 31, 1948. Rosie and June were parishioners at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church for years. They lived in Kansas City, Kansas in the house June built and had 5 children. Rosie was a stay at home Mom and later worked at Intercollegiate Press in Merriam, Kansas. She spent much of her time working in the fields with June and the kids raising vegetables for market. June passed away on September 13, 1975.

Rosie was a member of the Overland Park Elks Lodge when she met her second husband, Bob McKown. They were very involved with Lodge activities and traveled to many places. After Bob’s death, Rosie spent her time with her children traveling to Branson and hosting many family get-togethers.

Rosie always had a smile on her face and was the life of the party! She enjoyed reading, music and all kinds of dancing especially the Polka. And she loved her Kansas City Chiefs!  Her favorite place to eat was Ruby Tuesdays. She loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids very much and will be missed.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20 at Amos Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas with a funeral service to immediately follow. Graveside service will be Tuesday, January 21, 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery in Shawnee, Kansas.
