Rose Mary Mccallister

May 21, 1928 — September 5, 2021

Rose Mary McCallister (Caparelli) passed away peacefully in her home in Shawnee, KS on Sunday, September 5, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. She was 93 years old.

Born on May 21, 1928, in Council Bluffs, IA to Angelo and Grace Caparelli (Fazio). Rose graduated early from Council Bluffs’ Abraham Lincoln High School in January 1946, with a strong emphasis in Business. As co-owner of Omaha Volkswagen in the late 50’s to early 70’s and Business Manager for many of the nation’s largest automotive dealerships until 1995, she stood as a beacon of success to many working mothers and businesswomen that followed her example. After moving to Kansas City in 1992, Rose continued working in the Kansas City area until 2007 when she finally retired at the age of 78.

Rose loved her family and dedicated her later years to doating over her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their children. Her grandchildren describe her as loving, genuine, sincere, empathetic, witty, stubborn, strong, and courageous. She was deeply loved and respected by all her family and friends. She was a woman of great faith and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Overland Park where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a voracious reader, often consuming entire volumes in one sitting. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing ‘Words with Friends’, and consulting “The Google” on her iPad. She insisted on helping her family and others, in any way she could, right up until the end.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband John F. McCallister. She is survived by her brother Louie Caparelli and sisters Mary Caparelli and Francis Anglin, her daughter Phyllis Chase (Steve), grandchildren Tyler, Tara, and Adam (Ashley Sarchet) Chase, 6 nieces, 8 nephews, and 24 great-nieces and nephews. Also survived by stepdaughters Yvonne McCallister, Paula Livingston, and step-grandchildren Lorie Ramsey, Eric Livingston, and Noah and Seth Caddy.
