Rose Stechmann, 80, Shawnee, Kansas passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
Her early education was at St. Mary Academy, Independence, Missouri and she was a 1950 graduate of the College of St. Theresa (Avila University) in Kansas City. She had worked for 18 years at Furr's Cafeteria.She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Shawnee Garden Club and American Legion Auxiliary. Her popularity within the community was the impetus for her to be named Grand Marshal of the 2005 Old Shawnee Days Parade. Rosie was an admirable woman, exhibiting faith, hope and charity in her daily living, words and deeds - a true friend to all.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Shoe" Stechmann and her son, David. She is survived by three sons, Fr. Michael, O.A.R., of Los Angeles, California, Mark, of the home, and Daniel of Kansas City, Missouri; along with four grandchildren, Josie Hunter, Abby Stechmann, Amanda Stechmann and Matthew Stechmann; and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Augustinian Recollect Monastery, 29 Ridgeway Avenue, West Orange, New Jersey 07052 or the Sisters, Servants of Mary, 800 N. 18th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66102.
Visitation and Funeral Service
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Kansas 66203, followed by entombment in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday at the church, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m.
