Rosemary (Van Goethem) Weilert, 83, of Roeland Park, sister, wife, mother, friend, passed peacefully to join Fidelis, her husband of 57 years, on Tuesday January 5, 2010, surrounded by her children.

Born in 1926 the oldest of eight children, Rosemary was a third-generation Johnson County, Kansas native. She attended Gardner-Edgerton High School graduating as valedictiorian at age 16.

After two years at Kansas City Business College, she embarked on a career as a secretary. She kept in touch with many of the women she met as a "Y" girl. After her marriage to Fidelis in 1949, she settled in Roeland Park, Kansas and set about raising her seven children, taking pride in each passing milestone.

Rosemary was always active in the community serving as an election judge, census worker and scout leader. She was very active at St. Agnes Parish in many capacities, first helping at the school that her children attended, as President of the Altar Society and in many other aspects of parish life. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an excellent cook, making waffles every Saturday morning. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. Many thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at St. Luke's South ICU.

Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents Julien and Clare Van Goethem, husband Fidelis, daughter-in-law Barbara Vetter and sister Theresa. She leaves behind seven children: Michael (Genevieve) of Clovis, California, Carl (Lynne) of Kansas City, Marian Weilert Sauvey (David) of Evansville, Indiana, Barbara (Richard) Kramer of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Laura (friend Jack) of Denver, Colorado, Andrew (Julie) of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Mark (Hsin-yi) of Altadena, California; and 14 grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with the Rosary prayed at 6:30 p.m.. Additional visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
