Roy Lynn Payne

March 30, 1948 — February 14, 2023

Shawnee

Roy Lynn Payne, 74, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away unexpectedly on February 14th, 2023.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023 at the Amos Family Funeral Home.

Lynn was a twin baby girl born March 30th, 1948 in Brenham, Texas to George and Marjorie Schoenberg. Later the family moved to Albany, Missouri. Lynn met Victor when they were thirteen years of age. They became close and when Victor went into the Air Force at 18, he asked Lynn to be his wife. They were married on March 10th, 1967. Lynn and Victor lived in various places through the years while raising their children. Lynn was a jack of all trades in life. She was a loving and patient home maker for her family, as well as enjoying other jobs throughout the years, including a children’s bus driver and day care provider, which brought her great joy and pride.

Lynn had an early love for horses, and became Rodeo Queen in Texas as a teenager.  She loved to garden and had quite the green thumb, fish, sit in the sun and work on her crossword puzzles, shop the clearance section of any store, drive her car and spend time with her family laughing.

Of all words that could be used to describe Roy Lynn, selfless, kind, compassionate, empathetic, generous and accepting are at the top. Others would be inviting, caring, hard working, and fun loving. Her spunky nature was contagious! She was a loving, generous, comforting and supportive mother who always put her children first. Lynn’s kindness and accepting nature made everyone feel at home and comfortable around her. She was a soul who put you at ease from the moment you met her, and she will sorely be missed by all who knew her. To say our hearts are broken and she is already missed would be an understatement of epic proportions. The world is a little less bright today because of this loss, but oh how the heavens shine!

Lynn is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tex Schoenberg, and sisters Mary Lynn Schoenberg, Margie Butler and Gayle Rhodes.

She is survived by her husband Victor Payne of 55 years, her children Teresa Payne, Stefani Thomason and Clint and Jessica Payne, grandchildren Samuel and Gwyneth Thomason and Weston and Olivia Payne, her sister Georgia Lee Tetrault and half brother Darrel Lewis.

In honor of mom’s giving nature, if you would like to make a donation in her name, please choose the charity that is close to your heart, as that would have been her choice. She would feel honored to be a part of this.
