Rudolph J. Bade III passed away on February 5, 2022, at the Olathe Hospice House. He was born on April 7, 1942, in Kansas City, Kansas to Rudolph J. Bade, Jr. and Alice Bromerski Bade. Rudy, known as Butch to his family, spent his childhood and most of his adult life in the Kansas City, Kansas neighborhoods of the Cathedral of St Peter. He was especially proud of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout and being a member of MENSA. Butch served his country in the United States Navy from 1961-1965, and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His military training prepared him for his 40+ year career as an airplane mechanic and later an inspector’s supervisor for TWA and American Airlines. Butch married Barbara Doolittle on May 21, 1966, at St John the Baptist Church. Butch and Barbara were happy to welcome three children, Brian, Bridget, and Elizabeth (Betsy). Butch seemed to always hold a part-time job (in addition to his full-time job) from being an umpire for competitive softball, to aircraft work at Johnson County Executive Airport, and lastly at the Home Depot in Merriam. But the one he enjoyed most was working part-time for his father-in-law at the Standard gas station at 29th and State. Butch loved playing cards, visiting with friends over beers and at his BBQ grill, and entertaining all with stories and corny jokes. He enjoyed the companionship of his cat Nollie.
Butch is survived by his wife Barbara of 55 years, son Brian (Nancy), and daughters Bridget Bade, and Betsy (Pat) Uzzell. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren: Kylie, Cullen (Andrea), Kaylen, Colson, Kara, Camden, Jacob, Mickey, and MacKenna; and brothers Terry (Mary) and Kenny (Laurie). Butch considered Barbara’s ten siblings as his own: Fran (Charlie), Terry, Mary Ruth (Wes), Becky (Kelly), Bill (Sara), Paula (Kevin), Tim (Angela), Rita (Terry), John (Deb), and Leonard (Regina). Butch leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Butch now joins his mother and father, sister Therese, and infant twin brothers David and Dennis, as well as his in-laws Torrance and Agnes Doolittle.
The family would like to thank the staff at Advent Health and especially those at Olathe Health Hospice Care who were so kind and gentle with Butch, showing him much dignity and respect, and comforting his family.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10th, 2022 at the Amos Family Funeral Home from 5-7 pm, with a rosary prayed at 6:45pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, February 11th, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 am. Butch will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery following mass.
