Russell Thomas, 67, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away, Monday, February 6, 2012, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Russ was born December 3, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri to E. I. and Marjorie Satterwhite Thomas. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. After the service, he worked for Southwestern Bell until his retirement in 2000. In his retirement, Russ loved spending time with his grandchildren and his fellow "Bell" retirees.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1984 and a daughter, Jaime Thomas in 2009. He is survived by a daughter, Lindsay (Jason) Dunlap, of Leavenworth, Kansas; his mother, Marjorie Thomas, of Overland Park, Kansas; sisters, Mary Joyce (Larry) McWilliams, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Judy (Phil) Roberts, of Bonner Springs, Kansas; and his grandchildren, Kaylin and Jack Dunlap.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2012, at the funeral home with burial in the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
