Ruth L. Cates, 89, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013, at her home.

Ruth was born February 4, 1924, in Winwood, Missouri, to Jess and Frances Hugunin and moved to Shawnee, Kansas, in 1937. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. On June 15, 1951, Ruth married Everett Cates at St. Agnes Church, Mission, Kansas. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, playing the piano and most of all, loved all children.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Everett A. Cates on January 1, 2003, and five brothers. Survivors include her two daughters, Jean and Michael Shaffer and Carleen and John Stuhlman, all of Shawnee, Kansas; two sisters, Charlotte Zahner and Sharon Schnake; two brothers, Vincent Hugunin and Gary Hugunin; four grandsons; two granddaughters; and six great grandchildren

Funeral Mass, Visitation and Rosary

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home, where a Rosary Recitation will be at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in the Resurrection Cemetery.
