Ruth Lewis Murphy Kostas was born on July 20, 1929 in Maysville, Kentucky and passed away on November 21, 2019 at the age of 90.
Ruth grew up in Maysville, Kentucky and was a graduate of Maysville High School. She attended nursing school at St. Margaret's Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. During this time she met her husband, George Kostas, and they were married in 1950; making their life-long home in Rosedale, Kansas.
Ruth was a homemaker for many years and enjoyed cooking, baking, needlepoint, sewing, reading, ceramics, and writing letters to family and friends. In the 1960's, she served as PTA President at Frank Rushton Elementary School in Rosedale, Kansas. She was also the bookkeeper for the family business, Kostas Asphalt Paving, throughout much of her life. Being a mother and grandmother was her greatest joy.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Joseph Kostas (Betsy), and James Kostas (Sheila), and granddaughters, Lauren Lobner (J.R.), and Haley Kostas, and great-grandsons Jackson, Kaden, Carter, and Sawyer Lobner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Kostas, her parents, Gerald and Corinne Murphy, her sister, Frances Shipley, and her brother, Jerry Murphy.
Ruth will be greatly missed by numerous family and friends.
A visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the Amos Family Funeral Home; burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Maysville, KY.
