Ruth J. Raw

Ruth J. Raw, of Shawnee, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Ruth was born July 11, 1933, in Denver, Colorado, to the late John R. and Olive M. Barber. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sterling College with a degree in English and History. Ruth married Frank E. "Corky" Raw June 29, 1956 in Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2001, after 44 years of marriage.

Her greatest joy was her family. Ruth loved the outdoors and spending time with family at the lake. She enjoyed tending to her gardens, particularly her roses. She loved gathering with her family on holidays, especially Christmas.

Ruth is also preceded in death by her grandson David M. Raw and her brother Bob Barber.

She is survived by her children Rhonda Raw of Shawnee, Mark (Janet) Raw of Rose Hill, Kansas, Alison (Jim) Kernicky of Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and Gerald (Ann) Raw of Linwood, Kansas; a sister, Edwynna Curry of Portage, Wisconsin; brothers, Jack Barber of Lenexa, Kansas and Paul Barber of Prairie Village, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Alison Suzanne Baustian, Jennifer Basel, Crystal Swanson, Raechel Linot, Amanda Raw, Jacob Raw, James Kernicky, Timothy Kernicky, Daniel Kernicky, Jonathan Raw and Brittany Raw; and ten great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Cancer Action, 10520 Barkley Suite # 100, Overland Park, Kansas 66212-1855.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the chapel, with burial following in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, Kansas.
