Ruth A Smith

Ruth A. Smith, 95, passed away January 21st, 2022, in Bend Oregon. Ruth was born June 29th, 1926, in Lincoln Kansas to Albert and Anna Cain. Ruth graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1944 and became a volunteer at the U.S.O naval base in Hutchinson where she would meet her future husband, Carl E. Smith. Ruth moved to the Kansas City area in 1944 where she was employed at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for many years. In 1948, Ruth married Carl E. Smith and would go on to raise two sons. In 1959, Ruth and her husband moved to Lenexa Kansas where they started two business; R.C sales & The Lenexa Muffler Shop. Enjoying small town life as a business owner, Ruth was involved in the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce and small-town politics. Ruth and her family enjoyed spending weekends at Pomme de Terre Lake, making valuable memories with her family, and making sure her sons had a positive childhood. In 2001, Ruth moved to Bend Oregon where she resided until her death. While in Bend, Ruth was highly involved in the HOA for Mountain View Park and would spend her days with her neighbors learning neighborhood gossip which called for a gin & tonic at 5 o’clock on the dot.  Ruth is proceeded in death by her parents Albert and Anna Cain, husband Carl E. Smith and her sisters Dorothy and Thelma.  She is survived by her sons Richard and James Smith, Daughter-in-Law Kathy Smith and granddaughter Carla Smith.

Family, friends, and others whose life Ruth touched are invited to Amos Funeral Home Thursday January 27th from 6-8pm and Friday at 10am for graveside services at Lenexa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Ruth’s name to Abdallah Shrine to assist in transportation of crippled children to the Shriners Hospital’s for Children.
