Sally Jane Shaffer, born on December 21, 1947, in Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully of natural expiration on March 26, 2025, at the age of 77. Her life was a testament to grace, kindness, and resilience.
Sally's journey began in her hometown of Olathe, where she graduated from Olathe High School with the class of 1965. She furthered her education as part of the pioneering class of 1968 at MidAmerica Nazarene University, also located in Olathe. Although Sally was unable to be gainfully employed due to her special needs, she filled her days with joy and purpose through her passions and community service.
An accomplished pianist, Sally delighted in sharing her musical talents with others. She would often play Happy Birthday for the residents of her care facility, Azria Health, and perform heartwarming Christmas concerts. Her love for music was matched by her creativity; she found joy in crafting, coloring, and giving cards to brighten the days of those around her.
Sally was an active member of Central Church of the Nazarene in Lenexa, Kansas, where she was surrounded by a community that cherished her presence and supported her throughout her life. At Azria Health, she served not only as a resident but also as a leader, holding the position of President of the Resident’s Council twice during her stay. She was affectionately known as "The Princess" by staff and fellow residents, a testament to the love and respect she garnered during her years there.
Sally was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Sam and Winifred Shaffer. Though she had no remaining family members, she leaves behind two devoted caretakers, Clark Armstrong and Elaine Saner, who were entrusted with her well-being. Sally also touched the lives of countless healthcare workers at Azria Health and formed deep, meaningful relationships with friends from her church, all of whom will remember her fondly.
Beyond her musical talents and leadership, Sally cherished simple pleasures: solving Word Search puzzles, indulging in Nutter Butters, and bringing joy and sunshine into the lives of those around her. Her generosity and selflessness were evident in every aspect of her life, as she consistently watched over the needs of other residents in her care facility.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Church of the Nazarene. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather for a luncheon at the church following the service. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no interment ceremony.
Sally Jane Shaffer lived a life of quiet dignity and immense impact, leaving a legacy of love and compassion. Though she has departed from this world, her spirit and the sunshine she brought will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
