Salvatore Michael LoFaso passed away peacefully at Life’s Journey Hospice House in Avon, IN, on Friday, October 13, 2023. He fought a difficult and valiant battle against brain cancer, and as the rain fell quietly, he slipped into the arms of Jesus.
Sal was born to Salvatore and Grace (DeStefano) LoFaso on September 2, 1953, in New York, New York. He had just celebrated his 70th birthday, surrounded by many friends and family.
Sal was married to Karin (Cook), the love of his life, for 39 years. He is survived by Karin and his family: Grace (daughter) and Dan Lidstone and their children Bea, Ever, and Cabot, and Christopher (son) and Donny Rice. Sal was the 2nd of 5 brothers; he is also survived by Anthony LoFaso, John LoFaso, and James LoFaso. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph.
Sal met Jesus as his Savior and Friend in 1972; for 51 years he walked closely with Jesus. He spoke continually of his love for God and the power of the Gospel to change lives. He memorized huge portions of the Bible, and even as he struggled against brain cancer, he took comfort in reciting God’s precious promises.
Sal dedicated his life and career to telling people about Jesus, serving first as a missionary and then as a pastor, and later as a high school Bible teacher.
He had great delight in food, memories related to food, planning vacations around food, and thinking through dessert possibilities, especially cake. He was an intense planner — from vacations, to events, to meals he’d order in restaurants; even two days before his passing, he was recording videos of instruction for Karin. Sal was an amazing friend; he had a unique ability to connect with people and stay connected, despite distance and years.
While his family and friends grieve this loss, they don’t grieve as people without hope. Sal fought the good fight and has received from Jesus, “well done good and faithful servant.”
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, from 4:00-6:00 pm, at Ascend Church, in Olathe, KS, followed by a funeral service at 6:30 pm. A graveside service will be held at 10 am, Friday, October 20, at Shawnee Memorial Gardens.
These is also going to have a Celebration of Life on Monday, October 23, at 7:30 pm at Connection Pointe Christian Church, 1800 N Green St, Brownsburg, IN 46112.
