Sandy Jackson

Sandy Jackson, 87, of Merriam, Kansas passed away on October 4, 2020 at his home.

Sandy was born on February 4, 1933 to the late Moses Jackson and the late Genora Scott Glass in Chatham, Louisiana.

On his worldly journey he traveled and sang with a gospel quartet through his early years. In the fall of October 1952, he married Ida D. Harris to this union 5 Children were born.

He relocated his family to Merriam, Kansas. During that time, he started fellowshipping and then became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church which he remained a faithful member and Deacon up until his passing.

He worked in construction for many years and retired from the Wyco Unified Government. He was a union member of 1290 where all of the retirees were family.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ida D. Jackson in April 2015 and son, James E. Jackson in July 2020; siblings, Ceola McKeever, Jerlie Mae Harris, Ollie Woodward, Thelma Nelson, O.A. Jackson, Wyonia Glass and Tiny Jean Glass.

He is survived by his 4 daughters, Queen Jackson, Linda Jackson, Brenda Jackson and Melanie Jackson Gadson (Darron) as well as a beloved daughter-in-law Valeria Jackson; 6 grandchildren, Justin Jackson, Valencia Jackson, Ronnell Copeland Jr., Tera Frye, Mia Gadson, Darron Gadson Jr.; 2 great grandchildren, Kamilah Copeland and Voltron Jackson; 6 siblings, Katie Keegan, Lee Roger Glass, Costella Clarke, Luther Ray Jackson, Hosea Lee Jackson and Fred Jackson; several nieces and nephews, a devoted nephew, Larry Jackson and his Mt. Olive Baptist Church Family as well as his Union 1290 Brothers.

The Jackson family will receive guests from 10 am to 12 pm Saturday, October 17, 2020 followed by a funeral service at 12 pm. A live stream of the service can be viewed by clicking HERE.  The live stream will begin 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the service. Mr. Jackson will be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery Shawnee, Kansas.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions we are limited to 45 people in the chapel at one time. Masks and social distancing will be required.
