Sandy Langston, a resident of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away early on Tuesday March 23, 2010 after a nine month battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on March 17, 1957, to Dolores Bullock and Emery Hollier. Sandy graduated from Acadiana High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, and the University of Southwestern Louisiana also in Lafayette with a degree in Speech and Hearing. She later fulfilled a life long passion for food and graduated as a chef in 1994 from the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She was married to David M. "Mitch" Langston in 1991 and they had three boys who brought her much pride and joy. Sandy worked in marketing in health care, packaged goods and restaurant industries in Louisiana, Washington, Texas and Kentucky. More recently she was a Food Stylist in Dallas and Kansas City, a substitute teacher and Vitas volunteer in Shawnee. She was an active member of Willow Bend Church in Plano Texas and Westside Church in Shawnee, Kansas. She was an active member of the Shawnee AA Group for the last 20 months and was grateful for their support.
Sandy loved cooking, food styling, camping, the outdoors, beaches, gardening, her family and her two mini black dachshunds. She was a blithe, joyous and outgoing spirit with a passion for life, food and people. She made friends easily with a knack for making people feel special instantly. Her laugh was unforgettable, hearty and buoyant, reflecting of her joy of life. Despite three difficult and protracted battles with breast cancer, she never lost her courage, faith, hope or optimism.
The family wishes to acknowledge MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, which via a clinical trial sent her second cancer into remission and gave her six more precious years of life in the face of terrible odds.
Preceded in death by her father Emery Hollier, she is survived by her three sons Chase, Reid, and Riley; her husband Mitch; three sisters Gabi Ward, Monique Peddy, and Claudia Richartz; her mother Dolores Owen; step-father Travis Owen; and numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Memorial donations can be made at the service, for her sons' education funds payable to Learning Quest or, by mail, care of the Langston Family, P. O. Box 860246, Shawnee, Kansas 66286.
