Sarah Elizabeth Carmody Thornton

Sarah Elizabeth Carmody Thornton, 44, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at her home in Blue Springs, MO. Sarah was born February 9, 1973 in Kansas City, MO to William and Deborah Carmody. Sarah attended Shawnee Mission Schools and graduated from Shawnee Mission North in 1991. She graduated then from Drake University in 1995. Sarah worked for the US Postal Service, where she met her husband, Jonathan Thornton. They were married on May 7, 2004. Their son, Jonathan William Thornton, was born in 2007. Sarah explored the universe through her love of books. She combined a kind heart and a questing mind. Survivors include her husband and son; her parents, Deborah and William Carmody; her sister, Ellen Carmody and family; brother, Benjamin Carmody and family; her grandmother, Eleanor R. Gassman and Great Aunt, Mary Ellen Crary. Sarah was preceded in death by her two children, Charlie and Patrick Thornton.

A Visitation is set for 5:00 ~ 7:00 PM, Wednesday June 28, 2017 at Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203 with a Memorial Service immediately following at 7:00 PM. Burial will take place 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 29, 2017 at New Salem Cemetery in Independence, MO.
